Sometimes it’s just better to do it yourself.

I know… WEIRD coming from a business coach who preaches alignment. But here’s the truth —

A good business owner meets themselves where they’re at without the internal drama.

I’m in the *beginning* stages of building a non-profit. And I recognize that as a *beginner,* I don’t have the luxury of money and resources to help me get this thing going.

And THAT’S OKAY.

Bc I have a strategic long-game PLAN. I WILL have a team. I WILL have the money to expand. And I will NOT be doing these “bullshit” tasks that don’t fall in alignment with my prime role: artistic director.

But for now?

I’m up at 5 am working every morning before the kids wake up.
I’m pouring everything I have into this project.

Bc the future me will be so damn grateful for not letting “alignment” be the reason I didn’t birth an idea that would impact so many people.

Birthing is hard, baby!

Perspective is everything.

But that’s exactly the nuance —

Your students saying they don’t want to come to a group class is NOT information about whether you should offer one. It’s information about what you need to help them feel before they’re ready to try one.

bc here’s what’s true — most people are scared to sing in front of other people.

That’s not a coincidence, that’s the work. That is literally the work of being a voice teacher — helping someone feel safe enough to use their voice with other humans in the room.

So when my students say “groups aren’t for me,” I eventually started asking the *real* rational question: WHY?

This show ups like...

- less engaged students
- working on small tasks (ie video feedback, weekly warm ups) that take a lot of time
- students just wanting “private lessons, please”
- not seeing more income despite how much work you put in

ILY — you’re a GREAT teacher. You want to hold their hand bc you genuinely want to see them progress. That IS wonderful!

AND... there are boundaries that *must* be in place in order to
a) make the money you deserve
b) create the results your students desire, and
c) have all that ^^ w/out you having to be present 🙏

Less is more. Less is more. Less is MOREEEE.

Here’s 3 ways you can reduce teaching hours without losing any money:

1 - Offer a monthly group workshop
This can be for the public and/or your private students at an additional cost.

2 - Build a regular group class
There’s truly nothing better than showing up for a 75 minute class once a week and making $300 every class. You can’t beat it! If you haven’t experimented with it as a voice teacher yet, let this be the year you do it.

3 - Change your private lesson model
Look at the length of your sessions,# of lessons/mo, hourly rates, and everythinggg else you offer/want to offer beyond the lesson time.
Ex) instead of offering weekly 30 minute lessons/month, offer 3x 45 minute lessons/month with a higher rate + week off.
